Watch: MS Dhoni reminiscing ‘183 against Sri Lanka in Jaipur’ sends crowds into wilderness

Former India skipper MS Dhoni‘s IPL team, Chennai Super Kings was in Jaipur for the reverse fixture of the ongoing IPL 2023 against Rajasthan Royals. In the previous game between the two teams at Chepauk, the 2008 winners won by three runs. Meanwhile, during the reverse fixture on April 27, the CSK had quite a lot of supporters despite being an away game for them.

After the game, the former India skipper reminisced about his ‘183 not out’ against Sri Lanka in 2005. This inning came while batting at number three. Almost 18 years this, the right-hander recalled how that inning shaped his international career.

“They (the fans) will be chasing me throughout. It’s a very special venue because my first ODI hundred was in Vizag, which gave away maybe 10 games to me (for Team India). But the 183 over here, it ensured I get a chance for another one year. So, it’s a good venue, it’s close to my heart, and it’s good to be back here,” Dhoni said.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings lost to Rajasthan Royals again

Meanwhile, talking about the game, the home team, Royals won the toss and elected to bat first. They were coming off two back-to-back losses while the Super Kings were coming off three back-to-back wins. The Yellow Brigade bowling didn’t have an answer to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s onslaught inside and outside of the powerplay.

The left-hander scored 77 off 43 balls including eight fours and four sixes. After him, the likes of Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel played cameos to take the team to 202/5, their highest total at home. In reply, the four-time winners were out of the game as they managed only 42/1 inside the powerplay. In the middle overs, the likes of Adam Zampa and Ravichandran Ashwin took four wickets combined. Despite some heroics from Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube, the team could only reach 170/6, losing the game by 32 runs.

For the first time since 2008, the Royals have beaten the Super Kings twice in the league stage.
