‘200 bhi banadiye phir bhi haar gaye’ – Fans react as LSG thrash Punjab Kings to climb to second in IPL 2023
For a crucial Indian Premier League 2023 match against the Punjab Kings, the Lucknow Super Giants flew to Mohali. By smashing a half-century in just 20 balls, Kyle Mayers gave Lucknow an explosive start. KL Rahul was dismissed early but his opening partner kept going in the powerplay. Since Mayers was eliminated by Kagiso Rabada for 74 off 24 balls, the massacre still continued with the help of massive contributions from the middle-order batters.
Ayush Badoni and Marcus Stoinis established a 50-run partnership in just 26 balls. When Nicholas Pooran walked into the crease, Badoni was eventually out on 43 from 24, but in the first three deliveries he faced after coming into the game, he immediately hit three fours.
After only 16 overs, the Lucknow Super Giants dashed past 200, and for a brief moment, it seemed as though they might break the previous record for the highest IPL score ever made by a team. However, Marcus Stoinis collapsing on 72 off 40 somewhat hindered that effort.
Despite losing Nicholas Pooran during the final over and scoring 45 off 19 balls, the Lucknow Super Giants finished with a final score of 257/5 in their 20 overs. It is the second-highest score in the tournament’s history. When it appeared that we might set an IPL record for the highest score, Sam Curran as well as Arshdeep gave up only 22 runs in the final two overs to prevent that.
Punjab Kings Got off to the worst start
Shikhar Dhawan’s first game back from injury was one of the worst ones as he departed on the first over with only 3 runs on the scoreboard. The franchise also lost Prabhsimran Singh in the powerplay, which put them in a very precarious position. Sikandar Raza joined Atharva Taide in the need of a big partnership to take them out of this situation.
They had a great 78-run partnership before Raza was dismissed and even though they had this partnership, the target was always out of the reach of the Punjab Kings. Even though they got a boundary every over, they were losing wickets at regular intervals and the required run rate was not being met.
Atharva hit a well-deserved fifty as he got the runs with good intent but failed to make it into a big score which would have challenged the Lucknow Super Giant’s total. Even though Punjab Kings made 201/10, they lost by a big margin of 56 runs.
