In the 41st match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by four wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Riding on Devon Conway’s amazing batting performance CSK posted 200/4 in 20 overs which PBKS chased comfortably.

Earlier, CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni chose to bat on the batting-friendly track after winning the toss. His decision was well-received by the team, as opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and Conway combined for 86 runs in 9.4 overs to give CSK a strong start. Gaikwad got 37 runs off 31 balls, including four boundaries and a six to his name. However, Sikandar Raza dismissed him.

Conway and Shivam Dube contributed 44 runs for the second wicket after Gaikwad’s departure. Dube scored 28 runs off 17 balls, including two sixes and a boundary, in his brief innings. Following that, Conway led CSK to the massive total on his own. Conway in his innings scored unbeaten 92 runs off 52 balls with the help of 16 boundaries and a six.

CSK posted a hefty total of 200/4 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Chahar and Sam Curran clinched a wicket each for PBKS. Chasing 201 Punjab Kings got an amazing start as opener Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh added 50 runs for the first wicket.

Prabhsimran in his innings scored 42 runs off 24 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. Meanwhile, skipper Shikhar Dhawan scored 28 runs off 15 balls four boundaries and a six. After their departure, PBKS were crumbling as Tushar Deshpande clinched some quick wickets.

Soon PBKS was restricted to 94/3 in 10.2 overs. However, after their departure, Liam Livingston along with Sam Curran added 57 runs for the fourth wicket. Livingston scored 40 runs off 24 balls with the help of four sixes and a boundary. While Curran in the innings 29 runs off 20 balls with the help of a boundary and a six.

In the end, Jitesh Sharma’s amazing performance of 21 runs off 10 balls with the help of two boundaries and a six helped PBKS to register the victory. For CSK Tushar Deshpande clinched three wickets while allrounder Ravindra Jadeja clinched two wickets. This is CSK’s fourth defeat in nine games.

There is obvious weakness in some bowlers of CSK's bowling lineup and not sure why Dhoni is going with unchanged bowling lineups for so many consecutive matches when there had not been convincing bowling performances in seven matches while defending a target! So close every time!
