‘Arey mujhe chakkar aa raha hai’ – Twitter confused as RCB announce Kedar Jadhav as David Willey’s replacement for rest of IPL 2023
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have announced Kedar Jadhav as the replacement for England all-rounder David Willey for the remainder of the IPL 2023 season. While the nature of Willey’s injury remains undisclosed, the Englishman played four matches for RCB this season and took three wickets.
Kedar Jadhav started his IPL career in 2010 with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) against RCB, and in doing so, became one of just nine Indians to score a half-century on debut. Since then, the right-handed batsman has played 93 matches in the IPL, scoring 1196 runs. Jadhav had previously represented RCB in 17 matches during the 2016-17 seasons.
Jadhav was signed by RCB for INR 1 crore and last featured in the IPL in 2021. The 38-year-old was out of limited-overs cricket since November 2021 before making a comeback with two appearances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in November 2022. Jadhav then made a superb comeback to first-class cricket by scoring 283 in his first FC match in four years since January 2019. This century was also Jadhav’s first first-class hundred since late 2018 and his first 200-plus score since his record-breaking 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season when he emerged as the leading run-getter with 1223 runs in 17 innings. Jadhav’s highest first-class score of 327 came in the 2012-13 season against Uttar Pradesh.
Jadhav has represented India in 73 ODIs and 9 T20Is, and he is the only Indian to have an average of 40-plus and a strike rate of 100-plus in ODIs (min. 1000 runs). His return to the RCB squad will be a significant boost for the team as they look to secure their first-ever IPL title.
In conclusion, Jadhav’s return to the RCB squad will be a massive addition to their already strong batting lineup. With his vast experience and impressive track record in the IPL and international cricket, Jadhav can prove to be a valuable asset for the team in their quest for glory this season.
