‘That’s why he’s the Prince of Indian cricket’ – Twitter reacts as Shubman Gill hits brilliant 94 off 51 against LSG in IPL 2023 match

On May 7, Gujarat Titans (GT) faced off against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The visiting team won the toss and elected to field first, setting the stage for an explosive opening partnership from Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill.

During the powerplay, Saha dominated the scoring while Gill rotated the strike. The Titans amassed 78 runs in the first six overs, putting immense pressure on the LSG bowlers. The duo continued to punish the opposition and raised a crucial 100-run partnership for the first wicket off just 50 balls.

After Saha departed for a brilliant 81 off 43 balls, Gill took complete control of the innings. He scored a quickfire 50 off 29 balls, smashing four sixes along the way, and formed important partnerships with Hardik Pandya and David Miller.

Gill and Pandya added 42 runs off 23 balls, while Gill and Miller remained unbeaten to add another 43 runs off 24 balls, taking the Titans to a mammoth total of 227 runs in the first innings. Gill’s unbeaten knock of 94 off 51 balls, which included two boundaries and seven sixes, was the second-highest individual score for the Titans in the top-tier league, joint with David Miller.

Netizens were quick to praise Gill’s incredible innings, which helped the Titans post a formidable total on the board. Impressively, he also holds the highest score for the franchise with 96 runs against Punjab Kings in 2022.

Overall, it was an exceptional performance by the Titans’ opener, who showcased his class and ability to dominate the opposition bowlers. With a daunting total to defend, the Titans’ bowlers would be eager to take the field and put in a match-winning performance.
