‘2011 WC final ki yaadein taza hogayi’ – Fans react to spectators singing Vande Mataram during MI vs RCB game in the 2023 IPL
Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore faced off yesterday in a crucial do-or-die game for both sides. A win for either side would take them into the play-offs positions but a loss would mean that their play-off chance will take a big hit. With a lot riding on this game, both the captains were hoping to at least get the toss in their favour. Rohit Sharma, the home team captain won the toss and it was an obvious decision to bowl first considering the dew factor at the Wankhede stadium.
Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to an unusual start as they lost two key wickets in the form of Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat in the powerplay but that didn’t affect that much as Glenn Maxwell and skipper Faf du Plessis kept the runs flowing. They made a 120-run partnership which became the base for their above-average total of 199/6. The total was mediocre on a Wankhede pitch, suitable for the batters, and with dew coming in, the Mumbai batters were just waiting for their time to come.
Ishan Kishan gave the team the start they needed as he scored a crucial 42 off 21 balls before he and fellow opening partner Rohit Sharma were dismissed in the same over by Wanindu Hasaranga. That was the only great moment for the RCB bowlers as it was the Surya-Nehal show after that.
Suryakumar Yadav is known for taking the game away from teams through his unique batting. He scored a significant 83 off just 35 balls to take his side close to the total. He wasn’t able to finish off the job but his companion Nehal Wadhera, who scored his second fifty of the season, ensured Mumbai Indians crossed the line and won the game with six wickets in hand and 21 balls to spare.
What moment of the game was wholesome to see?
During the game between MI and RCB, the spectators were seen signing the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’ at the iconic Wankhede stadium. The video of this wholesome scenario has been circling around social media as the fans are reminded of the time when a similar instance occurred during the 2011 World Cup final at the same Stadium between Sri Lanka and India.
