Nitish Rana fined 24 lakhs for slow-over rate in CSK vs KKR game in IPL 2023

Nitish Rana, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain, was convicted for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct during his team’s match against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Rana’s KKR defeated Dhoni and company in IPL 2023 match No. 61 at the Chepauk, becoming champions in two iterations of the lucrative tournament.

Rana took the initiative in CSK’s final IPL 2023 home game and hammered a quick-fire half-century to help Kolkata defeat the four-time winners. Rana and Rinku Singh, who played well, teamed up to help KKR defeat CSK by six wickets at the Chepauk. After the game, the IPL fined KKR captain Rana for keeping a sluggish over-rate during his team’s play against CSK in Chennai.

KKR stayed alive in IPL 2023 with their 6-wicket win over CSK

“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Rana has been fined Rs. 24 lahks, and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lahks or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lesser,” the IPL said in a statement.

In the past, Rana was penalised for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after getting into a fight with Mumbai Indians (MI) player Hrithik Shokeen during the most lucrative T20 league in the world’s current season. The KKR captain was fined 25% of his match fee after Rana acknowledged the first Offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Speaking of the game, KKR captain Nitish Rana hit a lightning-quick half-century (57*), and Rinku Singh played a game-winning knock of 54 off 43 balls against CSK at Chepauk. “Said at the toss that if all 3 departments do well, our chances are good. I have to credit Chandu sir (coach Chandrakant Pandit) for this – I wasn’t in favour of taking heavy roller, but he insisted to go for it. I feared the pitch might break up. But that didn’t happen, and the ball didn’t turn much. Every team has a home advantage except KKR,” Rana said after the match.
