In the 62nd match of the ongoing IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans played host to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last home game. Ahead of the game, both teams were coming off losses. However, the defending champions needed everything to play for. They needed to win this game to ensure their tabletop finish in the tournament. On the other hand, SRH needed to win to keep their playoff chances alive.

Meanwhile, in the game, the 2016 winners won the toss and elected to bowl first. They had a great start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar took out Wriddhiman Saha in the first over. However, the likes of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan kept punishing the opposition bowlers. They put together 147 runs in just 13.4 overs. The former kept went on to score his maiden IPL hundred.

At one stage, the defending champions looked like getting past 200 runs. However, they lost eight wickets in the last five overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took his maiden five-wicket haul. The home team ended up with 189/9 at the end of the innings.

In reply, the visitors, Sunrisers had a horrendous start as they lost five wickets in 6.1 overs for only 45 runs. The likes of Mohammed Shami and Yash Dayal combined for five wickets. Things got worse as they lost two more wickets for 59 runs, leaving them hanging at 59/7. At this stage, it looked like the game would end early. However, the likes of Aiden Markram and Bhuvneshwar Kumar salvaged some pride with the bat.

They put together 68 runs with the former scoring 64 off 44 balls including four fours and three sixes. Kumar got 27 runs while Mayank Markande scored a cameo of 18 off nine runs. They ended up getting only 154/9, losing the game by 34 runs. With this loss, the former champions have been knocked out of the IPL. They have become the second team to do so after Delhi Capitals.
