KL Rahul discusses the ugly side of the social media trolling

For the first time, Indian cricketer KL Rahul, who is renowned for his demeanour both on and off the pitch, addressed the constant harassment that athletes receive on social media. KL appeared as a guest with Ranveer Allahbadia on his well-liked podcast, The Ranveer Show. KL spoke on the programme about his career as a cricket player and the terrible problem of trolling on social media. He is currently recuperating from an injury he suffered during an Indian Premier League game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

An important point was made in the show by Ranveer Allahbadia, alias BeerBiceps, who claimed that it has grown popular to trash KL along with other athletes. In her response to Ranveer, KL for the first time addressed social media trolling and emphasised how it impacts athletes, particularly when their low points are when they most need genuine support from others.

What did KL Rahul speak about the social media trolling he has faced?

KL Rahul spoke to Ranveer Allahbadia about how the social media trolls get to him and the other players but support from the people also is needed at times. He said, “That’s something that sometimes affects me and affects a lot of the other boys as well that when we athletes truly need support, people feel they can or have the power to comment or say what they want. Just see what that person is going through.”

The Lucknow Super Giants skipper then spoke about how it is their life and they have to deal with it somehow. He said, “None of us wants to perform badly. This is our life. This is all we do. Like I said, I don’t know anything else apart from cricket. That’s the only thing I do. Why would anyone assume that I am not serious about my game or I am not working hard enough? And unfortunately in sports, there is no connection. Like I said you can work hard, like I work hard but the result didn’t go my way.”
