Netizens give Shubman Gill death threats, abuse his sister online after his match-winning ton that knocked RCB out of IPL 2023

Star batter Shubman Gill smashed his second consecutive hundred as Gujarat Titans (GT) knocked Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) out of IPL 2023 with a 6-wicket win at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the last league match of the season. With GT’s win, Mumbai Indians become the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs.

Gill pulled off an amazing chase as he remained unbeaten on 104 runs off 52 hitting five fours and eight sixes as GT registered their 10th victory of the season and remained at the top of the points table. However, after the match, Gill has been receiving hate from the fans online. The netizens crossed all boundaries as they started giving Gill death threats and also targeted his sister Shahneel Gill’s Instagram account.

Kohli’s ton went in vain

It looks like the fans are not happy as Shubman Gill scored a match-winning knock in a must-win match for RCB. It was an important match for the Challengers and a win would have meant their entry into the top four and also confirm their fixture with Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Talking about the match, batting first, RCB posted a total of 197 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, powered by the second consecutive century of the season by Virat Kohli. In reply, LSG scored 198 runs in 19.1 overs losing 4 wickets.

Kohli and the skipper Faf du Plessis gave a flying start to RCB by adding 67 runs in 7.1 overs. After Du Plessis’ wicket, Kohli took the innings further with wickets falling regularly from the other end. He completed his hundred on the first ball of the 20th over and remained unbeaten on 101 runs 61 balls hitting 13 fours and a maximum. While Anuj Rawat also added the finishing touches by scoring 23 off 15 balls.

Chasing the winning total, GT lost their first wicket at the score of 25 in three overs, After that Gill and Vijay Shankar put up a partnership of 123 runs for the second wicket. Shankar got out after scoring 53 runs off 35 balls with seven fours and two sixes. After his dismissal, Gill took the innings further and smashed a six off the first ball of the last to complete his century and give GT a thrilling victory.
