In the eliminator game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, Mumbai Indians faced Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Winning here would help a team to qualify for qualifier 2 and face defending champions Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, batting first, MI didn’t get a comfortable start as skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Naveen-Ul-Haq for just 11 runs off 10 balls with the help of a boundary and a six. Notably, Rohit has not been in good form in the recent games. In the ongoing tournament, he has scored 324 runs in 15 innings at an average of 21.60. However, he had a decent striking rate of 133.33.

Meanwhile, his performance against SRH and Delhi Capitals has helped MI to win two crucial games. However, his form has been criticised by fans and cricket pundits and that has cost him his place in India’s T20I team. Speaking about the same in a recent interview, he said, “I don’t believe in anchor roles in T20 cricket. The game has changed and if you don’t adapt it you will be out of the game. I have played with a different style but now I want to explore things. I don’t mind scoring low but it helps the team.”

Further in the same interview, Rohit spoke about the allegations of MI being a superstar team. He said that we build the team and it takes a lot of effort. While speaking with Jio Cinema, he said, “Yes, we are a superstar team, but the superstars were developed by the franchise. All these players who we mentioned, are part of the big auction pool. These players, we bought them. Our scouting team worked hard day and night.”

“They went to Ahmedabad and spotted Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel. Hardik and Krunal, our scouts spotted them in 2015 and they got them here. We have worked hard for that, it’s not like it just happened on its own. MI’s squad was built over 5 years from 2015 to 2020. You talked about De Kock and Boult, these players were available at the auction,” he further added.
