‘Aagayi ji aagayi RCB apne original form me aagayi’ – Fans react as KKR thrash RCB by 81 runs in IPL 2023 encounter
In the ninth game of the Indian Premier League 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore faced Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In the one-sided game, Kolkata thrashed Bangalore by 81 runs. Star-studded Bangalore failed to hold nerves while chasing 205 runs in 20 overs. Shardul Thakur shined in KKR’s victory as he scored 68 runs off 29 balls, while also clinching a wicket.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis called KKR to bat first. Despite the steady innings of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, KKR was struggling to score runs. At the end of 12 overs, they were five down for 89 runs. Gurbaz, in his innings, scored 57 runs off 44 balls. However, allrounder Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh added 97 runs for the sixth wicket and helped Kolkata Knight Riders to post a hefty total of 204 runs in 20 overs.
Shardul, in his innings, scored 68 runs off 29 balls with the help of nine boundaries and three sixes. While Rinku scored 46 off 33 balls with the help of two boundaries and three sixes. Karan Sharma and David Willey shined with the bowl for Royal Challengers Bangalore. They clinched two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, Bracewell, and Harshal Patel clinched one wicket each.
RCB succumbed to KKR’s spin attack
While chasing 205 runs, RCB started well as they added 44 runs for the first wicket. Opener Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis made a steady start but eventually failed to convert it into a big knock. In the span of an over both of them were dismissed and floodgates were opened for RCB. Du Plessis scored 23 runs in 12 balls, while Kohli scored 21 runs off 18 balls.
Varun Chakravarthy, Suyash Sharma, and Sunil Naraine clinched nine wickets combined as Bangalore batters failed to read them. Varun clinched four wickets while debutant Suyash and Naraine clinched three and two wickets, respectively.
