Andre Russell’s remarkable return guides West Indies to thrilling victory over England in 1st T20I

The West Indies cricket team won the first T20I against England on December 13. Notably, the Jos Buttler-led England side has recently lost the ODI series, and following that, they lost the first T20I of the five matches of the series. Speaking about the game here, it was West Indies skipper Powell who won the toss and invited England to bat first.

Notably, after being sent to bat first, the visitors had a great start as Phil Salt hammered 40 runs from just 20 balls, while Jos Buttler also smashed 39 runs from 31 balls, giving them a great start. However, following their dismissal, no other player was able to continue the momentum, which helped them post just 171 runs before getting all out.

However, during the chase, the West Indies had a decent start as Brandon King and Kyle Mayers piled up 22 and 35 runs, respectively. Meanwhile, it was skipper Rovman Powell who hammered 31 runs from 15 balls. On the other hand, Andre Russell also smashed an unbeaten 29 runs from 14 balls, which helped them chase down the total with 11 balls to spare.

I was dreaming about getting a MoM award: Andre Russell

Meanwhile, Andre Russell was given the Player of the Match award for his fantastic performance. The great all-rounder remembered how he got a call in the T20Is, where he was dreaming about getting the Player of the Match award. Moreover, the right-handed batter has also revealed the talk he had with Powell to take an inning deep.

“Actually, life is so funny. When I got a call-up two weeks back, I was dreaming about getting a MoM award, I didn’t know how it would have happen though. Since the CPL season, the wicket has been up and down, two-paced, you’ll have to bowl a lot more cutters. Early on in their innings, runs were scored when there was pace. We bowled very well in the latter half. It was all about batting in pairs, we both have power (on himself and Powell), we knew we could finish off the game if we batted deep,” Andre Russell said in the post-match presentation.
