WATCH: Angelo Mathews provides video evidence to prove umpires wrong on his ‘timed out’ big ODI World Cup 2023 controversy

The Sri Lanka cricket team suffered a three-wicket loss over Bangladesh on November 6 at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. However, Sri Lanka’s great all-rounder Angelo Mathews becomes the first international cricketer to be dismissed by the time-out method, which is making headlines from the clash as well as sparking big controversy among the cricketing fraternity. Notably, the tension heated up between both teams, and they didn’t even shake hands after the match.

However, the middle-order batsman was fuming at the Bangladesh skipper and his side while calling this act disgraceful and disrespectful for the Sri Lankan team. Angelo Mathews claims that there was an equipment failure that caused things to slow in the stadium, and Shakib should have used his common sense to avoid this nasty and creepy act to keep the spirit of the game.

“I had two minutes to get ready which I did but there was an equipment malfunction and I don’t know where commonsense (had) gone. It was disgraceful from Shakib and Bangladesh. If they want to play cricket like that, stoop to that level, it is something wrong drastically. If I got late, past my two minutes and the law says I have to get ready in two minutes, I still had five more seconds to go,” Angelo Mathews said during the post-match press conference.

However, Mathews also claims that there were five seconds remaining before he was given time out. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old cricketer took to social media and proved the evidence. He further asked the justice from the fourth umpire, who adjudicated him as out before his time.

“4th umpire is wrong here! Video evidence shows I still had 5 more seconds even after the helmet gave away! Can the 4th umpire rectify this please? I mean safety is paramount as I just couldn’t face the bowler without a helmet,” Mathews tweeted.
