‘It’s already over, let’s move on’ – Fans react as Apex Cricket Council rates pitch for India vs Australia ODI World Cup 2023 final

Team India lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia by six wickets on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, after the loss, a plethora of former cricketers and experts lashed out at Team India for altering the pitch in Ahmedabad Stadium, which backfired on the hosts during the final game.

Speaking about the game here, the match was played on the used track where previously India vs. Pakistan was held, as well as Australia vs. England on the Ahmedabad track. Notably, Team India was only able to post 240 runs on the sluggish and slow pitch in the given 50 overs. However, the dew played a great role, which helped Australia chase down the total with seven overs to spare, thanks to flabbergasting performances by Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head.

However, according to reports, the Ahmedabad pitch got an “average” rating from the Apex Cricket Council on December 8. Notably, match referee Andy Pycroft assessed the rating of the India vs. Australia final game on Ahmedabad’s pitch. In addition, five matches of Team India’s game—which were against South Africa in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, England in the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, Pakistan in Ahmedabad, and Australia in Chennai—were played on an “average-rated” pitch, while the rest of the league’s games were rated on a good pitch.

Apex Cricket Council rated semi-final two as “average”

However, the reports further claimed that the semifinal against New Zealand in Mumbai was one of the Indian matches that the Apex Cricket Council rated “good” on the surface, where Rohit Sharma and Co. emerged victorious over the Black Caps on November 15 at Wankhede Cricket Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Apex Cricket Council rated the average pitch for the second semi-final that was played between South Africa and Australia on November 17 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Notably, Pat Cummins and Co. restricted Proteas to a narrow score and were successfully able to chase down the total in the second semi-final game to reach the final games.
