‘As a bowler, he is right up there with Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin’ – Dinesh Karthik lauds the exceptional performance of Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja has been exceptional ever since he returned to International cricket after his injury lay-off. He took a seven-wicket haul in the second innings for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy game against Tamil Nadu. He played domestic cricket in order to regain his fitness for the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Jadeja was slotted straight into the Indian Test team at the expense of Kuldeep Yadav. That change proved to be vital as Jadeja was magnificent in both the Test matches till now against Australia. After two Tests, he is the highest wicket-taker in the series, with 17 wickets and is also amongst the runs for India with an average of 48.
What did Dinesh Karthik say about Ravindra Jadeja?
Dinesh Karthik, the Indian team wicketkeeper and commentator, spoke to CricBuzz about Jadeja’s amazing performances. He said, “He [Ravindra Jadeja] is really at the peak of his powers. He’s crossed 30, and you get the feeling that he is right now at a very strong point in his life. The way he is batting, you can argue that when India goes abroad, you get the feeling that he is solid against fast bowling as a batter and gives you a lot of confidence.”
The Bangalore franchise wicketkeeper further spoke about how Jadeja is on the list among some of the legendary spinners of Team India. He said, “When it comes to India, a ten-wicket haul is not somewhat easy, but he seems to do it with consistency. As a bowler, he is right up there with Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin.”
Karthik then brushed upon the topic of Jadeja’s injury and how only he could have made a massive comeback like this in International cricket. He concluded by saying, “It’s very hard to put into context what he [Ravindra Jadeja] must have gone through in the last six months because he was well in line to be a part of the World Cup and was a very important cog in the wheel. Missing it due to a freak injury but then coming back and doing it the Jadeja way completely.”
