‘As great as Sir Viv was, Sachin Tendulkar was…’ – Former West Indies legend speaks about Virat Kohli’s weakness

Indian star batter Virat Kohli achieved the mark of 500 international appearances during the second Test match against the West Indies, surpassing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Ricky Ponting, among others. The stylish right-handed batter achieved his 76th hundred milestone in his 500th international match. In addition, the Delhi-born batter has amassed 25,582 runs at an average of 53.63 so far.

Notably, the former India skipper has been frequently compared with master blaster Sachin Tendulkar owing to his remarkable consistency across all formats and his impressive batting strike rate. On top of that, Tendulkar and Kohli spent almost a five-year span playing together for India. Furthermore, both batting greats were part of the 2011 ODI World Cup under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Notably, the RCB opener had a tough time before the Asia Cup 2022 and wasn’t able to score much to contribute to his team. In the same vein, former West Indies legend Curtly Ambrose praised India’s chase master Virat Kohli while affirming that any batsman can be dismissed early, regardless of how great you are.

All great batsmen have gone through low scores: Ambrose

“Every batsman is vulnerable at some point. I think batsmen are most vulnerable at the start of their innings, and maybe the start after every break when they have to start again. I don’t like this idea of people talking about batsmen being vulnerable here or vulnerable there — all batsmen can be dismissed, doesn’t matter how great you are,” Ambrose said on Rev Sports, being quoted by Hindustan Times.

The former pacer further gave an example of Viv Richards and Sachin Tendulkar by adding that these legends also departed for a low score while comparing with Virat Kohli.

“As great as Sir Viv was, he’s been dismissed for low scores. As great as Sachin Tendulkar was, he’s been dismissed for low scores. All great batsmen have gone through low scores,” he added further.
