Asian Cricket Council confirms reserve day for IND vs PAK clash in Super 4 of Asia Cup 2023

India vs Pakistan has been reported to be overcast on September 10. If the match again gets washed out like the previous meeting in the group stage, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided to add a reserve day for the Super 4 match so that fans and other people can view the full match. The marquee clash for Sunday has precipitation predicted to have up to a 90% chance of occurrence.

No other Super 4 games held in Sri Lanka will have such an option. This would imply that if rain will washout the highly anticipated match between India vs Pakistan, then the match can be resumed from the point it was halted on the next day, September 11. This decision was prompted by weather forecasts indicating the likelihood of rain on Sunday.

A reserve day has been incorporated for the Super11 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between India vs Pakistan: Asian Cricket Council

A statement from the ACC read, “A reserve day has been incorporated for the Super11 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between India vs Pakistan scheduled to take place on 10th September 2023 at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. If adverse weather suspends play during the India vs Pakistan game, the match will continue on 11th September 2023 from the point it was suspended. In such an eventuality, ticket-holders are advised to hold on to their match tickets which will remain valid and will be utilised for the reserve day.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) agreed to the decision immediately and did not send a letter to ACC President Jay Shah protesting the decision-making process. It was during these discussions that the PCB first raised the idea of adding a reserve day for this game, as they worried about the second India-Pakistan game being washed out in a tournament.

PCB chairman, Mr Zaka Ashraf had recently written to the ACC chairman Mr Jay Shah, asking for compensation for allegedly losing out on considerable revenue from gate receipts due to poor crowd response for the games in Sri Lanka.
