‘Aur khud Indian team success nii ho paayi’- Fans mock Moeen Ali over ‘learnt from MS Dhoni’ comment
Moeen Ali, the skipper of Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20, claims that MS Dhoni and the Chennai franchise are major contributors to his professional success in cricket. The all-around player also discussed his ambitions for the future. He also discussed Jos Buttler’s leadership and Eoin Morgan’s legacy as captain of England’s limited-overs team.
Obviously, we are just getting started, and these are early days. The ILT20, the first of its kind in the UAE, has the potential to be a huge competition. What we desire is that. We can support a nation’s athletes as they grow and compete against top athletes. Soon, their international team will be competitive. The largest benefit will be that.
I think the Indian T20 League has really contributed a lot to the England team: Moeen Ali
“I spent some time with MS and spoke a lot. I ask questions about captaincy and he answers. It is very open like that. As a captain, I learned a lot from him. I have also learned a lot from his batting.” Moeen Ali told Cricbuzz.
“It made a big difference to my international career. When I was playing for England and batting at 7 (at 8 in Test matches), a Chennai-based franchise sent me at No 3. The franchise gave me the responsibility and backing,” he stated.
“The big thing is them signing me and then retaining me. The backing you get from the Chennai franchise and the way the franchise is run is absolutely amazing. Everyone says it is the best franchise,” the English all-rounder added.
Since they are the current ODI and T20I champions, Moeen Ali has been essential to England‘s white-ball success in recent years.
“I think the Indian T20 League has really contributed a lot to the England team. Not just as individuals but we played a lot against the Indian team. You get to know about the Indian players’ strengths and weaknesses. You can use that to your advantage. As individuals, it definitely helped us playing in front of big crowds,” he concluded.
Here’s how fans reacted on Moeen Ali’s tweet on social media:
