‘Bhai tereko back bhi kaun kar raha tha’ – Fans react to Najam Sethi not applying for PCB Chairman post

Najam Sethi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, announced on June 20 that he will not pursue a permanent job within the PCB after withdrawing from consideration to have been its next chairman. Sethi stated that he did not want to have been the “bone of contention” among the country’s two main political figures, Asif Zardari, the president of the Pakistan Peoples Party, and Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister. The declaration makes it possible for Zaka Ashraf to reclaim the chairmanship.

The World Cup and the Asia Cup may be affected by this major development. Due to the fact that both the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and the Pakistan Peoples Party sought to nominate their candidates to lead the board, which left the PCB in a really big pickle.

However, the PPP has been pressing for Ashraf, noting that Sethi was appointed as the cricket management committee’s chairman in order to oversee PCB operations, call new elections, and reinstate the 2014 constitution. They said that since Sharif had stated that Sethi would remain, it would pose a conflict of interest for him to run in the elections.

In reality, PML N member Sharif recently met with Najam Sethi twice, indicating that Zaka wouldn’t receive the Premier’s nomination to serve in the chairman’s elections. Ironically, Najam Sethi, as well as Zaka, had both contested the hot seat in court in 2013–2014 when both were supported by their respective parties, with Sethi ultimately winning the conflict.

Najam Sethi took to Twitter to express his concerns  “Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty are not good for PCB. Under the circumstances, I am not a candidate for the chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders.”

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman will have a lot of responsibilities and one of them would be to confer with the Pakistan Government on whether to send the Pakistan Cricket Team to India for the World Cup later this year.
