Big blow for CSK as Devon Conway gets ruled out of IPL 2024 till May

Chennai Super Kings’ prime opener, Devon Conway is set to miss out on the Indian Premier League (IPL) till May due to a thumb injury. The Kiwi batter was injured while playing against Australia in the T20I series and thus, will have to miss cricket for eight weeks. Conway was the Player of the Match in last year’s IPL finals and also played beautifully during the entire season. Post his injury, he wasn’t available for the Test series against Australia.

For the Test series, Henry Nicholls was his replacement. However, when it comes to CSK, it will be difficult to find a replacement like Conway who was one of the best openers in the tournament. Along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, he gave some brilliant starts to the team which helped them build momentum during the entire match. Not just CSK, even Gaikwad had built a good bond with Conway as they played together for most of the tournament.

Nevertheless, CSK’s captain MS Dhoni will have to think of someone else to replace Conway in the team to defend their title in the IPL 2024. Just like him, the team needs an opener who will give them a good start and later convert the innings. Along with batting, Conway was an excellent fielder as well. So, CSK is missing out on one of their best players and will hope to find a perfect replacement for him.

Players to look out for in place of Devon Conway for CSK

Since Devon Conway will be missing most of the tournament, CSK will look out for a replacement in their squad. There can be no better player than his own Kiwi teammate, Rachin Ravindra. He is an outstanding player with a great mentality and temperament. He has played some amazing innings for New Zealand and will be looking forward to making a debut in the IPL. Next in line will be Ajinkya Rahane.

After getting an opportunity, he had a good season last year. Rahane transformed himself into a full-fledged T20 player when CSK needed him the most. Apart from them, Daryll Mitchell can be a good opener for CSK as he has some experience in the opening department while playing for New Zealand. Hence, these are the few players who might replace Conway in the team.
