‘Bilkul sahi kaha hai’ – Fans react to Harbhajan Singh’s statement on Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from Asia Cup 2023 squad

The Indian Cricket Board announced the Asia Cup squad on August 21, which is all set to commence on August 30 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Notably, the roster has marked the surprise inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Tilak Varma, whereas there was a notable omission of Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Following that, a plethora of experts are debating on the squad and giving their remarks after the team has been announced. Notably, former India cricketer turned analyst Harbhajan Singh is one of them.

In addition, the right-arm offspinner feels the team should have included leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal owing to his magnificent bowling spells. Moreover, the cricket commentator admitted that the RR bowler’s recent form is not good, but that doesn’t make him a bad bowler. “The one thing I feel little bit lacking and wrong in the team is the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal. I thought his presence in this team (for Asia Cup) was necessary. Yes, his last few games weren’t good, but that doesn’t make him a bad bowler,” Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube channel.

Moreover, the 43-year-old cricketer hopes the door isn’t closed for India’s spinner as the ODI World Cup is around the corner and Chahal has been a match winner in a plethora of the matches. Furthermore, the Punjab-born cricketer believes Chahal should have been rested and not dropped from the team. In addition, the star bowler reckons that Chahal should be in the team as he has the ability to perform better under pressure.

“I hope the doors aren’t closed on him. It’s important to consider him for the World Cup because the tournament is in India. Chahal is a proven match-winner. I can understand his form isn’t good, so you may have rested him. But I think if he was with the team, his confidence would’ve stayed intact. Any player who comes back after being dropped, the pressure to perform is always there,” he added further.
