‘Their presence will boost India’s batting’ – Brad Hogg picks India’s ideal T20 World Cup 2024 openers

Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg feels that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should open India’s campaign for the T20 World Cup 2024, which is slated to take place on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. Notably, both star cricketers were last seen in action in the T20I series against Afghanistan. However, both batters didn’t get the chance to be in India’s squad after their 10-wicket loss against England in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

The 53-year-old cricketer feels that both batters can help India build up a good pace if they are set to open the innings. In addition, the former all-rounder feels that both batters are a classic example of stabilization and can help India win the games.

“If Virat Kohli is playing in the T20 World Cup, I would like to see him opening the batting with Rohit Sharma. That’s where I think he can get the best out of him with the fields up and he can use the pace. At the backend, if you have one of Rohit Sharma or Virat batting through the innings, you could have perfect stabilization,” Brad Hogg said in a video on his YouTube channel.

India will need the experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli there: Brad Hogg

Brad Hogg feels that the wickets will be tricky in the USA and West Indies due to unknown pitch conditions. Moreover, the former great spinner feels India needs Rohit Sharma’s and Virat Kohli’s experience in such conditions, which can boost their batting line-up.

“If you look at the World Cup venues (in the USA and the West Indies), the wickets will be a bit tricky. India will need the experience of Rohit and Kohli there. Kohli is about to make 12000 runs in T20 cricket. So, their presence will boost India’s batting. He (Jasprit Bumrah) is an absolute genius. I thought he was sensational. Just getting the ball to move away and the England batters did not set themselves up for the inswinger,” he added further.
