‘Chalo ab film Hindi me bhi achha biz karegi’ – Fans react as Delhi HC asks Jailer movie makers to remove scene with RCB’s jersey

After hearing a plea from the franchise, the Delhi High Court has refrained from allowing the filmmaker of the Jailer movie to use Royal Challengers Bangalore’s jersey in the film. In the latest decision by Justice Pratibha M. Singh, filmmakers have been asked not to exhibit the scene of RCB’s jersey conspiring.

In the case heard by Justice Prathiba M. Singh, the IPL team, Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCB), took legal action against the filmmakers for their utilisation of the team’s jersey. The Rajnikanth-starrer film ‘Jailer’ has been accused of using RCB’s jersey in a derogatory manner. The court ruled that any release of the film on television, satellite, or an OTT platform must first incorporate modifications to the contentious scenes before airing.

The objection stemmed from a scene where a character wearing the team’s jersey, who is portrayed as a contract killer, reportedly makes offensive and misogynistic remarks about a woman. RCB contended that such unauthorised use of their jersey in a negative context had the potential to harm their brand’s reputation and value.

RCB shorts out issues with filmmakers outside the court

However, the filmmakers and RCB reached a resolution after filing the lawsuit. The terms of the agreement stipulated that the filmmakers would revise the scenes depicting the team jersey to ensure that it couldn’t be identified as the RCB jersey. This revision would involve the removal of key branding elements and primary colours associated with the RCB jersey.

Given that the movie had already premiered in theatres on August 10, both parties agreed to carry out the necessary alterations in the theatrical version within a span of ten days, effectively completing the changes by September 1, 2023. Notably, despite a huge success in south India, Jailer has failed to gain profits in the Hindi belt, especially due to its collaboration with two films, OMG 2 and Gadar 2.

Here is how fans react to RCB’s win in the lawsuit against the Jailer movie:
