The action returned in the Asia Cup 2023 with India taking on Nepal in Kandy, Sri Lanka. In a rain-drenched encounter, Nepal managed to score 230 before getting bundled out within 48.2 overs in a must-win game for both sides. Opener Asif Sheikh top-scored for Nepal with 58 off 97, featuring eight fours. At the same time, Sompal Kami was their second-highest scorer with 48 off 56, including one four and two sixes. Opener Kushal Bhurtel with 38 off 25 was impressive as well.

Talking of the bowling from India, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja were the most impressive with the ball, scalping three wickets each. Jadeja remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/40 in ten overs. At the same time, Mohammed Siraj scalped 3/61 in 9.2 overs. Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami returned with one wicket each.

India won the game against Nepal by 10 wickets  

In response, India started their batting only to be interrupted by rain. They were given a revised target of 145 runs in 23 overs. They chased the target down without losing a single wicket, with 17 balls to spare. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 74* off 59, including six fours and five massive sixes. At the same time, his co-opener Shubman Gill scored 67* off 62 balls, including eight fours and one towering six. With the win, Team India qualified for the next stage of the competition which is the Super Four stage.

The other big news related to Asia Cup 2023 was the relocation of the Super Four games scheduled for Colombo to Hambantota. Hambantota currently enjoys the most favorable weather conditions in Sri Lanka. The ACC carefully evaluated the suitability of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota to host the Asia Cup matches. The Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin on September 9. The Sri Lankan cricket board is resolute in ensuring that the fate of the event is not determined by unpredictable weather conditions.
