‘Chalo finals se phle panauti utar gai’ – Fans react as Bangladesh beat India by 6 runs in Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023

In another nail-biting thriller, Bangladesh beat India by six runs in their Asia Cup 2023 encounter. Despite Shubman Gill’s fighting century, India failed to hold its nerve and fell six runs short of the target. Mehdi Hasan Miraz, Tanzim Hasan, and skipper Shakib Al Hasan proved to be the keys to success for Bangladesh. Despite this loss, India will face Sri Lanka in the finals of the Asia Cup on Sunday.

Earlier, after winning the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first. He also announced five changes in the XI as India rested some key players ahead of the finals against Sri Lanka. However, his decision to bowl first went well with the team, as Bangladesh lost four wickets for a mere 59 runs. However, skipper Shakib Al Hasan had some other plans as he and Towhid Hridoy added 101 runs for the fifth wicket.

Shakib, in his innings, scored 80 runs off 85 balls with the help of six boundaries and three sixes. On the other hand, Hridoy, in his innings, scored 54 runs off 81 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes. In the end, Nasum Ahmed’s 44-run knock helped Bangladesh post a competitive total of 265/8 in 50 overs. For India, pacer Shardul Thakur took three wickets, while Mohammed Shami took two wickets.

Shubman Gill single-handedly stood up for India

At the toss, India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his happiness to put his team in a challenging position to bat under lights. However, for the first time in the ongoing tournament, India failed to hold its nerve. Skipper Rohit was dismissed in the very first over for a two-ball duck. Soon, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, and debutant Tilak Varma also fell down after getting a brief start.

However, Shubman Gill stood up for India and kept one end safe. He, along with Suryakumar Yadav, added 45 runs for the fifth wicket. Surya, in his innings, scored 26 runs off 34 balls with the help of three boundaries. Gill continued his dominance with the bat and scored a magnificent century before getting dismissed by Mehdi Hasan Miraz. Gill, in his innings, scored 121 runs off 133 balls with the help of eight fours and five sixes.

In the end, all-rounders Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur added 40 runs for the eighth wicket and took the game to the last overs. Shardul, in his innings, scored 11 runs off 13 deliveries. Axar, in his innings, scored 42 runs off 34 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. However, despite his efforts, India fell six runs short of the target. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets, while Tanzim and Mehdi got two wickets each.
