‘Champion Players always find a way’ – former Australia legend backs Virat Kohli despite his poor run in BGT 2023
In today’s generation, former India captain Virat Kohli is one of the greatest test batters as he ranks among some greats of the game. However, his form in the longest format of the game has been under scrutiny as he has been unable to register any spectacular innings in the last three years.
Kohli who has been phenomenal in Tests throughout his career has been unable to score a century in the last three years and a half-century in the last 15 innings. He has been continuously struggling against both spin and pace bowlers against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
His struggle with form has allowed cricket pundits to question his place in the team. Meanwhile, former Australia Captain Ricky Ponting has backed him and asked fans to believe in him. Speaking on a cricket show World Cup winner Aussie legend said that it’s difficult to bat on these Indian pitches and so he is not concerned about Kohli’s poor performance.
“He will bounce back”, says Ricky Ponting
Virat Kohli who registered his last Test century in December 2019 against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens has scored just 111 runs in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Speaking about the same Ponting said, “I am not looking at anybody’s form in the series because for batters it has been an absolute nightmare. Australia has done a remarkable job by turning around those first two Test matches and coming back to win the third.”
“We all know batting has been so incredibly difficult. And it has not been because of the turn, but also the uneven bounce which makes you lose trust in the wicket and if that happens you are guessing all the time which makes batting difficult,” he further added.
Speaking about Kohli he said, “For Kohli, I have said that over and over, champion players always find a way. He might be in a bit of a drought at the moment and might be not scoring runs which we all expect him to score but he is a realist as well. When you are a batsman and you are struggling and not scoring runs, you are pretty aware of that yourself. I am not concerned about this because I am confident he will bounce back.”
