‘Chetan Sharma ne aaj tak kia kya hai’- Twitter fuming as reports of Chetan Sharma to continue as chief selector surface on internet

Following India’s exit from the 20-20 World Cup 2022, the Indian Cricket Board sacked the entire selection committee, including Chetan Sharma, who held the position of chairman. Later, they invited applications for new members.

The departing selection committee was asked to select the squads for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka, which was their last assignment before leaving.

However, as per reports, it has been understood that Chetan Sharma is likely to be reappointed as the chairman of the selection committee. Several reports suggest that the Indian Cricket Board haven’t received a lot of applications for the same despite offering a lucrative package.

Notably, Chetan Sharma had re-applied for the post and, if reports are to be believed, then he is likely to be repointed for the position. It is pertinent to note that, the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee interviewed 6-7 former Indian players for the concerned position.

The names include the likes of Chetan Sharma, Harvinder Singh, Amay Khurasia, Ajay Ratra, SS Das, S Sharath and Connor Williams.

Interestingly, Venkatesh Prasad wasn’t even shortlisted for the interview. Harvinder Singh was also a member of the previous selection committee and he is, once again, likely to be reappointed as well.

If BCCI is indeed going back to Chetan Sharma, it will just show once again how they messed it up. Before becoming a chairman, he mostly did media commitments. Ideally you got to have one who has been part of the system as a selector or coach of a domestic or IPL team.

India won the first T20I against SL by 2 runs

Meanwhile, the Hardik Pandya-led India won the first T20I of the three-match series on Tuesday by 2 runs. After being invited to bat first, India managed to score 162 runs in the first innings.

The top-order failed to hit the straps but vital contributions from Axar Patel (31 off 20) and Deepak Hooda (41 off 23) meant India managed to post a challenging score on the board. In reply, Sri Lanka fell 2 runs short of the target.
