Cricket Governing Body announces Prize Money for Winner and Runners up of Test Championship Final
The Apex Cricket Council on Friday announced the Prize money for the upcoming Test Championship Final between India and Australia that is scheduled to be played at the Oval, England from June 7 to June 11. The Council said that India – Australia final will have major incentives for both teams for being the finalists of the championship in the longest format of the game. The winners will get the amount of $1.6 million as the prize money, while the runners-up will get $800,000.
The Prize money for the tournament is the same as the previous edition in 2019-2021, with a total purse of $3.8 million. The previous champions New Zealand were rewarded with $1.6 million besides the glittering Mace in Southampton two years ago with an 8-wicket win over India.
All the nine participating teams of the Championship will get their share from the purse of $3.8 million, where South Africa have already earned $450,000 by finishing third in the 2021-23 Test Championship standings. While England have finished in the fourth position and will get an amount of $350,000. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, who were among the contenders for the final before their series against New Zealand, finished in the fifth spot and will get an amount of $200,000.
The runners of the previous edition, India have already started their preparations for the big final against Australia as players like Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, and Umesh Yadav have already landed in England along with the Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff. While the rest of the Indian players along with the skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will join the Indian team soon after the completion of the ongoing season of IPL. On the other hand, veteran batter Cheteshwat Pujara is already in England as he is a part of the County championship.
