‘Dar ka mahoul tha’ – Akash Madhwal’s brother shares interesting story when MI speedster was banned to play local tournaments
Mumbai Indians (MI) speedster Akash Madhwal produced a match-winning performance in the eliminator match of IPL 2023 where he picked up a fifer against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, May 24. With this performance, it is again proved that MI’s talent scout has worked a lot to find great talents from all around the country.
Meanwhile, Akash’s brother Ashish Madhwal revealed an interesting story about the speedster as he said Akash was banned to play in the local tournaments because everyone was feared to face his deliveries. He said that due to this, Akash had to go outside of Roorkee to play.
“Nobody let him play here. There was a lot of fear of his bowling. So, he was banned from the local tournaments. Dar ka mahoul tha(there was fear all around). Akash used to go outside of Roorkee and play,” Ashish said.
The thing with Rohit bhai is that he gives players chances: Ashish Madhwal
Akash has played 7 matches in the league so far and has already taken 13 wickets. His bowling will be very crucial for MI in the 2nd qualifier against Gujarat Titans (GT). Ashish also talked about how Rohit helped his brother to do well in the league and have credited him for supporting Akash to become their main fast bowler.
“The thing with Rohit bhai is that he gives players chances. He trusts his players and backs them. A new player is always scared for his position in the team. And Rohit has taken away that scare and Akash is delivering now. When he was working after his engineering, people would come every day and say don’t go to work today, come play in our team and we will pay you.
And from there he transitioned to the leather ball after his trials at Uttarakhand. But yeah, his tennis ball days are done. He is so, so happy right now. Rohit Sharma takes 50 per cent of his tensions. Just look at the bond that they share (points to TV),” Ashish was quoted as saying by NDTVsports.
