David Warner gets ruled out of 3rd T20I against New Zealand due to groin injury

Australia’s star cricketer, David Warner, is unavailable in the final T20I against New Zealand owing to a groin injury. Notably, the veteran batter was left out of the starting line-up for the second T20I of the series, which Cricket Australia (CA) claims has nothing to do with the injury he suffered.

Meanwhile, David Warner had earlier announced his retirement from the Test and ODI forms; therefore, the match against New Zealand was his last overseas match with the Australian national side. However, the 37-year-old cricketer’s participation in the coming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) with the team Delhi Capitals (DC) is unlikely to be affected by the injury he sustained.

However, Cricket Australia also confirmed that David Warner will require a brief time to recover, but the board has confirmed that he might play in the IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024, and his injury won’t affect these two marquee events.

David Warner will require a brief recovery period

“Warner will require a brief recovery period which is not expected to affect his availability for the upcoming Indian Premier League leading into to the Men’s T20 World Cup,” a Cricket Australia statement said.

Speaking of the ongoing series, Australia are set to lock horns against New Zealand on February 25 for the third and final T20I game. Notably, the visiting sides have already clinched the series as they went on to win the first and second T20I against New Zealand, and they will be looking to win the last T20I to whitewash the series. However, the hosts will be looking to win the final T20I game to avoid the whitewash.

Here is the updated squad for Australia for the last and final T20I

Mitchell Marsh (c), Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa.
