‘Ending his career on a High’ – Fans react as Australia’s star batter David Warner announces his retirement from ODI cricket

Australia’s star cricketer David Warner announced his ODI retirement from international cricket on Monday. Notably, the left-handed batter last played the 50 overs of the game in the ODI World Cup 2023, where he guided his side to become the sixth-time world champions after defeating hosts India on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium.

The left-handed batter revealed that he was planning to retire during the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, the 37-year-old cricketer revealed that winning the prestigious title on Indian home soil was his massive achievement before his retirement. Meanwhile, the southpaw revealed that he will be available for the Champions Trophy 2025 if the team needs him.

“I’m definitely retiring from one-day cricket as well. That was something that I had said through the World Cup, get through that, and winning it in India, I think that’s a massive achievement. So I’ll make that decision today, to retire from those forms, which does allow me to go and play some other leagues around the world and sort of get the one-day team moving forward a little bit. I know there’s a Champions Trophy coming up. I’m around and they need someone, I’m going to be available,” David Warner said at the SCG.

David Warner also opened up about his emotions when they lost the first two games against India and South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023. However, the Delhi Capitals batter was ecstatic about how his side marked his comeback owing to the stellar performance of Maxwell and the great captaincy of Pat Cummins.
“When we lost two games in a row in India, the bond just got stronger with each other and it’s not by fluke or by chance that we were able to get to where we were. The heroics of Maxi [Glenn Maxwell], the captaincy and the skills and execution of the way that we played against India was phenomenal, and not to dismiss the Kolkata semi-final as well,” he added.
