‘Delhi Cricket Board galat kar raha hai’ – Fans react as Delhi sack Yash Dhull as captain after crushing defeat to Puducherry in Ranji Trophy 2024
Delhi took an unexpected move by relieving Yash Dhull of his captaincy duties mere hours after a crushing 9-wicket defeat to Puducherry in their opening game of the Ranji Trophy 2024 on January 8. Notably, the decision to replace the young skipper adds to Delhi’s ongoing questionable selection choices, highlighting the struggles of the once-domineering domestic team in the ongoing edition.
Speaking about the game here, Delhi suffered a humiliating defeat where Captain Yash Dhull, who previously led India in the U19 World Cup, found it challenging to counter the Puducherry fast bowlers under conditions favouring seamers at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. In addition, the 21-year-old cricketer’s scores of 2 and 23 reflected the team’s inability to surpass 150 runs across both innings during the game, which made him lose his captaincy on such a bad note.
However, despite the right-handed batter’s impressive record in playing 17 first-class matches, amassing 1185 runs at an average of 43.88 with four centuries, including an unbeaten 200, he has encountered a recent slump in form in the upcoming first-class series. Moreover, the star cricketer struggled in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, failing to secure a fifty in seven matches. Notably, the Delhi Capitals batter captained Delhi in both the domestic 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this season; however, he was sacked in the Ranji Trophy owing to his poor form.
Yash Dhull is a talented player but is out of form: Rajan Manchanda
Meanwhile, Delhi District Association joint secretary Rajan Manchanda revealed that the young batter has been released from captaincy duties so that he could work on his batting to get his form. In addition, Delhi has named Himmat Singh as the new skipper of the team in Ranji Trophy 2024.
“Yash is a talented player but is out of form. We wanted him to do well as a batter, that is why we have relieved him of captaincy duties. Himmat is our senior player and has done very well for us. He will captain the side,” Rajan Manchanda said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
