‘Delhi W is performing better than Delhi M could do in 15 seasons’ – Fans react to another convincing win for Delhi in the WTL

Delhi and UP were looking to conquer each other in the fifth match of the WTL 2023 after winning their first two games. Lanning and Shafali helped Delhi defeat Bangalore by 60 runs, while Grace Harris helped UP defeat Gujarat by three wickets. The two Australian greats, Lanning and Healy, were matched up against each other in an explosive match.

After winning the toss, UP elected to bat against Delhi. Warriorz replaced Grace Harris, who hit a match-winning 59 off 26 balls in the squad’s first game, with pacer Shabnim Ismail. Delhi squad remained the same from their last match against Bangalore.

How did the match between Delhi and UP pan out?

In the Women’s T20 League, Delhi scored over 200 again but this time against UP. Delhi was led by captain Meg Lanning’s 42-ball 70, while Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues remained not out on 42 and 34. This was the Delhi franchise’s second 200-plus total in as many games, demonstrating that the franchise is determined to play a hostile brand of cricket under the statesmanship of the evergreen and bold Meg Lanning.

With their skipper Alyssa Healy at the helm, UP came out all guns blazing in the second innings and were firing boundaries for joy in the first three overs of the powerplay, but the tide turned as Delhi retreated back as they got wickets at frequent intervals.

Jonassen’s double-wicket over in the powerplay, when she eliminated opposition team captain Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire, proved too much for UP. Navgire tumbled to a wild slog after the left-arm spinner outfoxed Healy and had her at point. Tahlia McGrath delayed the inevitable with a stroke-filled 90 not out of 50 balls, the Women T20 League’s highest overall score to date. It was Delhi’s second consecutive victory and would now face Mumbai on Thursday who have also won two games out of their two games. UP, on the contrary, suffered their first defeat of the season with this loss.
