‘Different Eras, Different Players’ – Former Sri Lanka Pacer Chaminda Vaas on Virat Kohli-Sachin Tendulkar Comparison
It is quite often that India star batter Virat Kohli gets compared with Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Notably, the 34-year-old batter recently played his 500th international game against West Indies and hammered a great century during the second Test. Meanwhile, it is quite notable that Kohli’s record is slightly better than that of Sachin Tendulkar, with the former amassing an impressive total of 25,582 runs at an amazing average of 53.48, featuring 76 centuries and 131 half-centuries. Furthermore, Sachin Tendulkar had an average of 48.48 involving 75 centuries and 141 half-centuries after his 500th game.
Notably, a plethora of experts and fans debate whether Virat Kohli would break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of hundred centuries. Speaking on the same subject, the former Sri Lanka cricketer Chaminda Vaas affirms that records will break one day; no one can keep the records. Meanwhile, on the comparison between Indian stars, the former pacer described it as ‘different eras, different players.’
“Records are there to be broken, you know, you can’t keep records all the time. Different eras, different players, but the way I see it, Kohli is still young and has a lot of time. Age is just a number, and the way he’s performing, I’m sure he will do well for Indian cricket. We have seen different generations in which India has produced excellent cricketers,” Vaas said, being quoted by Hindustan Times.
Sometimes the game can become very funny: Garfield Sobers
Meanwhile, West Indies legend Garfield Sobers was also asked about Virat Kohli breaking the biggest records, to which the former all-rounder said if the player is good enough, it will eventually happen.
“Well, I wouldn’t say that because sometimes the game can become very funny. You can have some bowlers that are good too. And you have players who can do certain things with the ball at times that you don’t even think about. You have been playing often against these types of players, and if you are good enough, eventually you will rise.”
