‘Dilli walo ka Man of the Tournament’ – Fans react as Axar Patel adds on to his brilliant allround record in IPL 2023 against CSK

The action returned in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hosting the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Chepauk. While CSK are coming into the game against the backdrop of a defeat at the hands of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), DC are riding high after two consecutive victories against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The home team won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they failed to get off to a fast start as Axar Patel’s spin created problems for the CSK openers, dismissing both of them within the seventh over for the score of 49. First, he got rid of Devon Conway, who could only score 10 off 13 deliveries, and then he returned to dismiss his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad at the score of 24 off 18 deliveries. Interestingly, Axar Patel has so far taken 9 wickets and scored 246 runs in IPL 2023 so far, making it a brilliant allround performance.

Sunil Gavaskar has backed Axar Patel to captain Delhi Capitals

Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar, a renowned cricketer from India, spoke forward and suggested that Axar be named Delhi’s captain rather than David Warner. He even continued by saying that having Axar serve as captain would be extremely beneficial for the national squad.

“I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He’s in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in a long run,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

After Rishabh Pant was forced to miss the 2023 IPL season owing to severe wounds he sustained in a terrible automobile accident in December 2022, Axar Patel was chosen as the vice-captain of the Delhi Capitals team. The acting captain was selected to be David Warner. Even if the squad’s season results have only started to turn in their favour, Warner has led the team from the front.
