Dinesh Karthik believes Yashasvi Jaiswal needs to be ‘fast tracked’ after a great season in IPL 2023

The runners-up of the previous IPL season, Rajasthan Royals (RR) did not qualify for the playoffs of the ongoing season of IPL as they finished in the fifth position at the points table with seven wins from 14 matches. RR had a great start in the first half of the season but lost momentum completely in the second half and failed to reach the top four of IPL 2023.

However, the one positive for RR from this season was the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 21-year-old had an exceptional season as an opener as he amassed 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61. Jaiswal scored five half-centuries this season and also smashed his maiden IPL century against Mumbai Indians. He also broke the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history as he took just 13 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders to complete his fifty.

After a remarkable season in IPL, there have been talks that he should be included in the Indian team squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India later in the year. However, veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik feels it would be too early to include Jasiwal in the World Cup squad as there are limited ODIs left for India in the year before the marquee event. He also said that Jaiswal should be one of the frontrunners for the 20-20 World Cup in 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

Just back him (Jaiswal) out there in the T20 setup…: Dinesh Karthik

“He’s a young boy. He needs to be fast-tracked into the T20I setup. I think he needs to be one of the frontrunners for the T20 World Cup happening next year as there are only a limited amount of ODIs left to be played prior to this World Cup,” Karthik said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“I only think it’s fair that Yashasvi Jaiswal, when given an opportunity, is given an extended run because again, he is a very special player. He’s shown us in this IPL. But when it comes to international cricket, it is a different cup of tea altogether. Just back him out there in the T20 setup, he needs to be there now. He’ll get going. And by the time this World Cup finishes, he will be ready to play from there on in ODIs and T20s,” he further added.
