‘Dramebaziii kro 3 saal’ – Fans react as Ben Stokes reportedly set to make his way back to ODI setup ahead of World Cup 2023

England Test skipper Ben Stokes is reportedly all set to make his way in the upcoming ODI World Cup which will take place in India during the months of October and November. Notably, the English team will be facing New Zealand on October 5 to commence their World Cup journey. In addition, the great all-rounder has recently levelled up the prestigious Ashes series by 2-2 against Pat Cummins’ side despite losing the first two Test matches.

Moreover, the obvious reason for his comeback was his magnificent performance during the final match of the 2019 ODI World Cup as well as the 2022 T20 World Cup. Notably, the southpaw hammered an unbeaten 84 runs against the Black Caps in the last ODI World Cup, which enabled the English set-up to level the scores after 50 overs. Following this, the left-handed batter was splendid during the Super Over, which made the home team earn the title of the 2019 World Cup against Kane Williamson’s side at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

England’s Ben Stokes now appears willing to play in the World Cup: Reports

In addition, the reports suggest that the 32-year-old cricketer may miss the IPL 2024 owing to knee surgery. Notably, the right-arm pacer will be featured in the ODI World Cup in India, and after that, the 5-match Test series is slated to take place from January to February in India. Moreover, playing in the IPL will not be feasible for him.

“Ben Stokes is prepared to make a sensational U-Turn and reverse his One-Day International retirement to help England’s World Cup defence in India this year, even if it means missing out on next season’s Indian Premier League. The England Test captain now appears willing to play World Cup if he is asked by white-ball captain Jos Buttler,” according to British daily The Telegraph.

“Stokes is likely to bat in the middle order for the England ODI side. Amid fears of how much bowling he could do, England are prepared to pick him as a specialist batsman, replicating the role he performed at stages during this summer’s Ashes series,” the report stated.
