‘Easy run chase ko tough chase bana diya’ – Fans react as Delhi Capitals finally open their account in IPL 2023, beat Kolkata by 4 wickets

Kolkata Knight Riders took on the Delhi Capitals in the capital city of India for the 28th match of the IPL 2023. Rain forced a nearly hour-long delay in the game, but when it finally began, KKR never got going. They struggled in the powerplay, squandering three wickets, as they have done all season. However, this time they never recovered because it was difficult for them to reach even three digits.

Only three KKR batters, including Jason Roy, were able to reach double digits in scoring with a total of 43 in 39 balls. Then, the two-time winners placed all of their faith in Andre Russell to save something from the final overs. While he largely struggled, the Jamaican was able to hit three consecutive sixes in the final over to help KKR reach 127.

How did the Delhi Capitals chase pan out?

David Warner brought out the youngster that still existed in him as he raced to a quick 45* off just 25 balls as he was the main aggressor for the Delhi Capitals in the powerplay. People were expecting a Prithvi Shaw show as he is a master of these small chases but he was kept quiet and he enjoyed the show from the non-striker’s end.

Shaw lost his wicket and wasn’t able to stay with David Warner as he was bowled out by Varun Chakravarthy. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw had already cemented Delhi’s position in the game with a quickfire powerplay which saw them score 61 for the loss of just one wicket.

But after the powerplay, where things changed, Kolkata bowlers started to apply themselves better and were able to put pressure on the batters. Warner started taking his time as he was seeing wickets tumble at their end. Delhi Capitals lost three more wickets in the next 8 overs and this included the wicket of the set batter David Warner. The match started to see a different shape with two new batters at the crease in the form of Axar Patel and Manish Pandey.

Two more wickets fell as Delhi Capitals looked in danger as the match was in a very precarious position. But Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav kept their cool as they took their side over the line. This win was their first victory in the Indian Premier League 2023.
