‘Ek ek karke sab pacer out ho rhe’ – Fans react as Anrich Nortje gets ruled out of ODI World Cup 2023

With just a few days to go until the ODI World Cup 2023, which is all set to commence in host country India, the South Africa team get a huge blow as star cricketer Anrich Nortje has been ruled out for the marquee event owing to the injuries he sustained in the recently concluded five matches of the ODI series against Australia on their home soil.

Notably, the great pacer sustained the back spasm where he missed the last three ODIs against Australia and has only bowled five overs during the second ODI against a strong visiting side. This is the biggest setback for the side, as the Proteas star has the experience to play in Indian home conditions as he has appeared in a several seasons for the IPL, where he plays for the Delhi Capitals.

In addition, Sisanda Magala has also been ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, head coach Rob Walter has confirmed the news. The former South African cricketer feels that their presence would have been the biggest boost for the Proteas heading to the ODI World Cup in 2023. In addition, the 48-year-old coach says that they are under observation and the team is giving them the necessary support, which can help them make their competitive return to the squad.

It’s hugely disappointing for Anrich Nortje and Sisanda to be missing out: Rob Walter

“It’s hugely disappointing for Anrich and Sisanda to be missing out on the 50-over World Cup. Both are quality players that add immense value to the Proteas. We sympathize in their omission and will continue to provide all the necessary support as they work towards their return to competitive action,” Rob Walter said.

Meanwhile, the Johannesburg-born cricketer has named Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams as the replacements in their final 15-member squad. “This provides an opportunity for Andile and Lizaad on the global stage. Both players have been part of our winter programs as well as having represented South Africa in the recent white-ball tour against Australia. They offer great skill sets and we’re excited to have them complete the 15-player squad for this year’s World Cup,” he added further.
