After winning the last fixture by eight runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday, April 21, at the MA. Chidambaram, in Chennai. CSK won the match by seven wickets and Ravindra Jadeja was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni had an excellent day behind the stumps as he did some brilliant catching and stumpings against the visitors. Dhoni, who hasn’t had many opportunities to demonstrate his batting abilities in the tournament thus far, had a significant impact on the game with the gloves because, despite ‘getting old’ as he mentioned, his glovework has remained excellent and he is still competitive.

The CSK spinners dominated the match on a surface that gripped and the balls halted and stayed a little low, and Dhoni, the wicketkeeper, got involved in play fairly early in the game. Dhoni made sure that the “Vintage Thala” masterclass behind the wickets was seen by fans and broadcasters across the world by taking a challenging catch of SRH skipper Aiden Markram appeared incredibly simple and quickly stumping  Mayank Agarwal without giving the batter even a chance to take into consideration.

“Still they didn’t give me the best catch. I was in such a wrong position. Just because we wear gloves people think it’s very easy. I felt it was a fantastic catch not because of the ability but at times you are at the wrong place at the wrong time and you catch it,” Dhoni was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation after clinching victory over SRH.

“Long time back, I still remember one game when Rahul Dravid was keeping. Rahul bhai caught something like that. With your skillset you cannot take a catch like that. You have to be at a very wrong position to take a catch like that,” the Chennai Super Kings skipper asserted on India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid.

Dhoni drew Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar into the conversation and expressed his appreciation for the Indian icon without holding back on his admission that he is getting old. “Once you get old, that’s the only time you get more experineceunless you’re Sachin paaji, you start playing at 16-17.”

Harsha Bhogle interrupted saying “You’re not old!” Then Dhoni was quick to respond saying, “Definitely old. You can’t really shy away from that.”
