‘Ekdam shi’ – Fans react to Gautam Gambhir saying ‘MS Dhoni was selfless as captain always put team ahead of himself’

In recent times, former India cricketer turned analyst Gautam Gambhir has always opened up about the 2011 ODI World Cup while reiterating that the credit always goes to MS Dhoni for the win despite great performances by other players with the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar in the tournament. However, in his recent show, the well-renowned cricket commentator lavished praise on former India skipper MS Dhoni.

The former India opener feels legendary cricketer MS Dhoni was the first wicketkeeper batsman who could have changed the game with his bat, and this would have made the headlines. In addition, the 41-year-old admits that the CSK skipper would have broken a plethora of records if he had batted at number three in the 50-over format, thanks to his magnificent batting skills.

“He was the first wicketkeeper coming up that could change the game with the bat. I’ve seen this before, and I know this will make headlines. If Dhoni had batted at number three, he would have broken a lot of records in ODI cricket. A lot of people say Dhoni achieved a lot as a captain; surely he did,” Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports.

MS Dhoni would have made a lot more runs and hundreds: Gautam Gambhir

Meanwhile, the former left-handed batter believes that MS Dhoni has accomplished a lot as a captain, but he didn’t make the impact as a batter as he always batted at numbers 6 and 7, which the star cricketer has sacrificed for his team. Moreover, the Delhi-born cricketer feels MS Dhoni could have more runs and hundreds while batting early.

“However, as an individual as a batter, because of captaincy, what he could have achieved as a batter, he did not. This comes with captaincy. Because as a captain, you keep the team ahead of yourself and bat at six and seven. If he was not captain, he would bat at number three; he would have made a lot more runs and hundreds,” he added further.
