Report: Paarl Royals star Fabian Allen attacked and robbed at gunpoint outside team hotel in SA20

West Indies star cricketer Fabian Allen was reportedly harassed and robbed at gunpoint outside the SA20 franchise Paarl Royals team hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. Notably, the incident happened on the sidelines of the SA20 tournament, making the 28-year-old all-rounder ahead of the eliminator clash, which is scheduled to take place on February 7.

According to Cricbuzz, the attackers arrested star cricketer Fabian Allen near the Sandton Sun Hotel, carrying a revolver in hand. In addition, they brutally removed his phone, personal things, and a suitcase, but gladly, no further damage was done to him. However, the Cricket West Indies source reported that contact had been made with the 28-year-old cricketer and that his condition had been fine so far.

However, Fabian Allen, who is a left-arm spinner who can also bat down the order, has appeared for the West Indies in 20 ODIs and 34 T20Is. He is renowned for tying up batters in the middle overs. Moreover, his T20I economy rate of 7.43 is the strongest indication of this.

However, it has been true that the 28-year-old does not appear to be in his best form in the current season of SA20 2024. The Paarl Royals batter’s highest score for the season is 17*; so far, they have played six innings. Furthermore, the left-arm spinner’s bowling numbers were also not especially impressive. In four innings, he took only a few wickets.

Notably, the stylish right-handed batter was dropped from the playing XI after the match against the Durban Super Giants last month, and considering what happened outside the team hotel, he seems doubtful to play again in the playoffs. However, this is an additional security-related incident involving SA20 players in the past few weeks.

Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian Allen: Report

Meanwhile, the league is in its second campaign and has reached the play-off stage. Notably, Paarl Royals will play the eliminator on February 7, completing Qualifier 1. The final will be a game set to be played on February 10.

“Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian. Contact was successfully established through Obed McCoy (another West Indies international). He is fine. CSA (Cricket South Africa) and his team, Paarl Royals, could share more details if there are any,” a top CWI official told Cricbuzz.
