Following heroics in 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka, Luke Jongwe reveals his role model
Luke Jongwe revealed about his childhood hero in the post-match conference after helping Zimbabwe to beat Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I. Jongwe was the hero for Zimbabwe in the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka. In difficult batting conditions, Zimbabwe needed 20 runs to win in the last over. The lower-order batter stepped up and finished the chase for the visiting side.
Speaking of which, Jongwe felt that the wicket got better to bat on with the progression of the innings. The pacer claimed that Sri Lanka was 20 runs above par as they scored 172 runs after being reduced to 25/4 at one stage. At the same time, Jongwe claimed that the teammates were confident about their chances in the game, as the pitch got better with the progression of the game.
When asked about Angelo Mathews after the match, Luke felt happy and revealed that the Sri Lankan used to be in his wallpaper when he was a kid. Jongwe recalled that the right-handed batter was using Gray-Nicolls willow back then. The right-arm pacer added that he was still a young player back when Angelo was at his best.
‘I’m just grateful to God’ – Luke Jongwe
“He (Matthews) used to be my wallpaper when I was a kid. He was still singing Gray-Nicolls gear at that time. I was still a youngster,” said Jongwe in the interview. The 29-year-old added that Mathews was his profile picture on Facebook for a long time. Luke then recalled how long he had come as a cricketer. The Zimbabwean cricketer claimed that he was emotional and grateful to the god.
“On Facebook at one point, he was my profile picture. There’s too much happening for me today. There are a lot of emotions. I’m just grateful to God,” added Luke in his statement. It is worth noting that Mathews has been good as a batter in the ongoing T20I series. In the 2 matches, Angelo has scored 46 and 66 runs respectively. However, it was his bowling that became a decisive factor in the 2nd T20I.
