Gabba set to miss out on Olympics 2032, massive new details revealed

The iconic Gabba Stadium in Brisbane is set to miss out on the Olympics 2032 action. This is a huge blow after Australia’s chief Olympic Committee president Ian Chesterman took this call.

Ian Chesterman believes that the need to redesign and re-develop Gabba isn’t needed. As per the Australian Olympic Chief, there is a feeling that there are more viable options instead of Gabba.

The Gabba stadium has become a huge focal point for the cricket fans. Australia was unbeaten at this ground for 32 years before losing to India. Recently, West Indies won the Test by 8 runs for the first time in 27 years.

Brisbane’s iconic ground set to lose out on Olympic 2032?

Australia’s Olympic Chief Ian Chesterman is set to turn his back on the Gabba for the Olympics 2032. The news came after the plans to go ahead with the redevelopment of the stadium were vetoed.

Speaking to the media, Ian Chesterman said “The IOC’s new norm process is designed to ensure the Games are both affordable and sustainable, with a strong preference for the use of existing or temporary facilities”

Mr. Chesterman also went on to say “We believe there are other, more creative solutions than rebuilding the Gabba for the Games which provide a legacy for our sports and even greater access for fans to an exceptional Olympic and Paralympic Games. We will put these ideas to the review committee”

There is a fear that the snub could be a huge setback for the iconic stadium in the years to come. As per the new guidelines, the grand opening and the finale ceremony could be held at the Suncorp Stadium.

Noted journalist Robert Craddock said, “It sentences the Gabba to be the fifth best venue in Australia for the next 20 years. It’s a real setback because the Gabba were counting on this and now it’s gone. The redevelopment of the Gabba just became political poison, especially with a state election coming up this year”

Brisbane Lions chairman Andrew Wellington defended his home turf and said “The venue has been our home for the past 30 years and the redevelopment ensures it will be fit for purpose for the next 30 years”
