Gautam Gambhir speaks about his relationship with Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni
Former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir finally spoke about his relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in his latest interview. The 2007 20-20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup winner also broke silence on his on-field spat with Kohli during IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Notably, LSG mentor Gambhir and RCB batter Kohli were involved in a heated argument after the match starting from Kohli’s on-field banter with Naveen-ul-Haq during the match.
When Gambhir was asked about this incident, he said that there was nothing personal between him and the former India skipper and it just remains on the field. While speaking about Kohlim he also took the name of MS Dhoni and added that he shares a same kind of relationship with both the cricketers.
“My relationship with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli is the same. If there is an argument between us, it stays only on the field, not off field. There’s nothing personal. They want to win as much as I do,” Gambhir said in an interview with News 18.
“Look, I have had many fights on cricket fields. It’s not like I never fought. I have always ensured to let those fights and arguments stay at the cricket field only. The argument was between two people and it should stay within the cricket field and not outside it. A lot of people said many things. A lot of people demanded an interview for TRPs like they asked me to clarify. The thing that has happened between two people doesn’t need to be clarified,” he further added.
‘Our country is not team obsessed, it’s individual obsessed’ – Gambhir after India’s loss in WTC final
Speaking further in an interview, Gambihr also took a shot at the Indian cricket team management and the fans after India lost the World Test Championship final against Australia on Sunday. Rohit Sharma-led team India suffered a 209 runs against the Pat Cummins side in their second consecutive WTC final.
“Our country is not team obsessed, it’s individual obsessed. We count individuals bigger than our team, other countries like England, Australia, New Zealand, the team is bigger and not the individual. And the stakeholders of Indian cricket, from broadcasters to media, have unfortunately been reduced to PR agencies. They’ll show just 3 people the whole day. If you have made a 50 and i have also made a 50, if you keep showing one person, everyone will think that he is the only star. The other person will be termed underrated,” Gambhir said.
