‘He’s in our best 11 players……; – Australia chief selector hits out at Mitchell Johnson on David Warner’s selection in 1st Test vs Pakistan

The Australia cricket team is all set to lock horns against Pakistan for the three matches of the Test series scheduled to take place on December 14 in Perth. Notably, Cricket Australia has released the first Test squad against the Men in Green. However, the squad of Australia’s Test team against Pakistan did not come without criticism. Former Australian cricketer Mitchell Johnson hit out at David Warner’s selection in the series. Johnson slammed Warner, saying the southpaw wasn’t worthy of being in the Australia squad.

In addition, Johnson also hit out at Australia’s chief selector, George Bailey, for picking Warner despite his poor performance in the Test matches. However, Australian Chief Selector George Bailey also came up with a fiery answers after his criticism. The great cricketer affirms that Warner was the right choice for the first Test game.

“Ultimately, we still think he’s in our best 11 players to win the first Test. I think Test cricket, in terms of the way that the World Test Championship points are set up, each Test is critical. Obviously there’re roles within that for each individual and how that actually structures up the team as a whole; and we think David is the right person for that for this Test,”  George Bailey said.

David Warner has opened the batting for Australia for such a long period of time: George Bailey

George Bailey clarified that he did not try to replace Warner from the squad due to his consistency in the game for so long. Moreover, the former batting legend affirms that Warner was the fit choice for the first Test against Pakistan.

“I don’t think you ever try and replicate someone who’s played a role for as long as someone has done it as well as they have. I’d put David in that category, the way he’s opened the batting for Australia for such a long period of time. So that’s something that we’re certainly conscious of making sure that the fit post-David is the right one,” he added further.
