‘He seems to be batting really well in the nets’ – Glenn Maxwell backs Alex Carey ahead of clash against South Africa in ODI World Cup 2023

The five-time world champions, Australia, had an awful start to the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, Pat Cummins and Co. suffered a six-wicket loss against India on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Team Australia was restricted to just 199 runs during the play, which helped India chase down the total against the visitors.

However, Australia star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has backed wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey to perform well in the ODI World Cup 2023. The great RCB stalwart says that Alex Carey has been practising hard in the nets and gearing up for the marquee event. Notably, middle-order batter Alex Carey is out of form after the 2023 Ashes Test.

“I think there’s been enough water under the bridge since then. He seems to be batting well in the nets from what I saw until probably I ran him out in that practice game,” Glenn Maxwell said as quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Meanwhile, the Men in Yellow will be locking horns against South Africa on October 12 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow for their second clash of the ongoing tournament. The 34-year-old cricketer accepted that owing to changes in conditions, they had lost their opening game against India. Moreover, the Victoria-born cricketer looks positive about delivering a good performance against the Proteas in their next clash. Furthermore, the right-handed batter lauded Australia’s bowling as they reduced the home team to just 2/3 on Sunday.

“You know when you come to India you will be faced with a whole heap of different conditions, whether it be flat wickets that don’t bounce or dry wickets that turn quite a bit. We feel like we’ve been testing ourselves a fair bit in training, and feel ready to face whatever challenge, we just came up against a very good bowling line-up the other day. Felt like we created enough chances with the ball,” he added further.
