‘Gold ke alava kuch nahi chalega’ – Fans react as India women’s cricket team cruise to Asian Games 2023 final after victory against Bangladesh

The first semi-final of the Asian Games took place at Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou. The match was played between Bangladesh Women and Indian Women. Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat in this crunch game. Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start as Shathi Rani and Shamina Sultana were both sent back by Pooja Vastrakar for ducks.

Vastrakar was on fire for India as she went on to dismiss Sobhana Mostary and Ritu Moni. Shorma Akter Fahima Khatun and Marufa Akter were sent back to the pavilion on ducks. Skipper Niger Sultana was the highest scorer for the Bangla Tigers as she scored 12 off 17 balls with one four. It was a field day for the Indian bowlers as the Bangladesh batters were caught in a web that they could never get out of.

For India, Vastrakar was the pick of the bowlers as she bowled a dream spell picking up 4-17 in her four overs. Titas Sadhu, Amanjot Kaur, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Deepti Sharma and Devika Vaidya picked up a wicket each for the Women in Blue. It was a great bowling performance as the Bangla Tigers were shit down for just 51 in 17.5 overs. On the big day, India had their tail up.

Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 20 off 15 balls for India

In the second innings, India made very short work of the total. Even though the Women in Blue lost their stand-in skipper Smirti Mandhana for just 7 off 12 balls with one four. Shafali Verma eased the nerves in the dressing room as she struck 17 off 21 balls with two fours.

In the end, the job was neatly done by Jemimah Rodrigues who made an unbeaten 20 off 15 balls studded with three fours. Kanika Ahuja hit an unbeaten 1 off 2 balls and provided Rodrigues company. India steamrolled Bangladesh and won the game by 8 wickets to make it to the final of the Asian Games. The second semi-final will happen on September 24 between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. It will happen at 11:30 a.m. Indian Standard Time (IST).
