‘Hamara Delhi ka ghamad zari raha’ – India register crushing 6-wicket victory over Australia on Day 3 of 2nd Test
The second game of India and Australia’s four-game Test series has already reached its conclusion on Day 3 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. In what was an incredible match from start to finish, the two sides are facing off. Considering the Test Championship, a win is essential for both teams.
The Aussies struggled to 263 on the opening day of the second Test on a challenging but not threatening Arun Jaitley Stadium surface. Both Handscomb (72*) and Khawaja (81) batted for more than three hours. The veteran spin combo of India, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, were at their very best as they each took three wickets on the first day.
Indian innings felt a stutter with four wickets down for just 65 on the board. It seemed as though Australia had won easily when Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja initially broke the flow. Just after lunch, Jadeja lost his wicket, and Virat Kohli was declared out in a debatable call by Nitin Menon and the third umpire. Once KS Bharat failed to capitalise on his innings, he quickly followed him to the pavilion.
Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, though, combined for 114 runs in just 177 balls to close the distance between the two teams, giving Australia a lead of one run going into their second innings. India was able to reduce the lead thanks to their pairing, and if the pair hadn’t stepped up in that situation, India would have been in serious trouble. Axar has batted with a lot of effort, and India has benefited from the lower order antics once more in this Test match.
How did the second innings pan out?
The Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja swiftly decimated the Aussies, who were routinely sweeping the ball. Jadeja completed with his best figures of 7/42, while Ashwin finished with three wickets. The Aussies lost nine wickets for 53 runs on a hectic day 3 morning.
Nobody anticipated that Australia would fall apart so horribly within three days. They were dismissed for just 113 runs in the second innings despite having a 114-run advantage, enabling India 115 to win the test and keep the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India completed the chase within one session and won the game by six wickets and take an unassailable lead.
